Academic Services Coordinator (Part Time)
Under the supervision of the Program Manager for the SafeFutures Youth Center, provide creative educational support resources to middle and high school youths of diverse backgrounds who are at-risk of being or involved in the juvenile justice system and/or academic failure. This position will require some work during evenings and occasional weekends.
Two years of direct social service experience with low income, at-risk risk and their families; and/or experience providing any of the essential functions listed above; AND a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, education or related social services field (Master’s Degree preferred or a combination of education and/or training and/or work experience which provides the ability to perform the essential functions of the position). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and computer systems, i.e. creating tracking database of clients/youths and inputting information. Valid Washington State Drivers License, safe/clean driving record, and ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
Ability to gather, analyze, and use data to create, evaluate, and manage various programs to meet the needs of youth. Demonstrated ability to develop and operate youth peer groups and activities; ability to relate well with youth at-risk and take leadership roles with youth; ability to develop and implement academic and social skill building curriculum; knowledge of different cultures and refugee/immigrant history and relevant issues which impact the minority community; knowledge of the juvenile justice system and the public school system; extensive knowledge of youth gang issues, alcohol/drug, and mental health; knowledge and life experience within the refugee/immigrant communities.
